A Sussex MP was recently banned from using his vehicle after it was discovered that he had not taken out any bike insurance. Nick Soames (60), the conservative MP for Sussex, had been caught on camera after being the member of a hunting party during the festive season.
In the film he was seen driving his quad bike without adequate insurance and he has now had a 2 month ban imposed upon him, he has also incurred fines which total £250 for flouting the law. The illegal ride took place on both public and private land shortly after midnight and the quad bike reached speeds of approximately 10 miles per hour.
The incriminating film also showed several other passengers riding on the bike behind Soames, including a pregnant woman and 3 children who were just 3, 5 and 7 years old. All the passengers were ‘unrestrained' and ‘standing up' according to reports. It was brought to the attention of the courts that if anyone were injured in these circumstances there would have been no insurance policy in place to offer compensation or medical aid.
